Gary Lineker suggests Heung-min Son should not have been sent off after horror injury
Everton and Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League game this evening was marred by a horror injury suffered by Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes.
The Everton star appeared to break his leg after stumbling from a challenge by Heung-min Son into Serge Aurier.
It was a horrible incident to view and Son, considered one of the nicest men in football, was visibly distraught at the damage caused.
It was a horrible injury and hopefully, Gomes gets the best diagnosis possible and can make a speedy recovery.
However, whilst Tottenham fans had nothing but sympathy for the player, they were also surprised by the referee’s decision after the severity of the injury became clear.
Son was sent off after a VAR review, after initially being booked. Martin Atkinson was told to send the South Korean off and while it was a terrible injury that decision did seem harsh.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and BBC Match of the Day presenter went on to point this out.
Son clearly massively upset. Without the injury he wouldn’t have been shown a red card. He’ll care less about that than injuring a fellow professional so seriously. Such a shame.

Regardless, Son would not have been able to play on. He was distraught and Mauricio Pochettino would have had to make a substitution.
But Tottenham went down to 10-men as a result of the overturned decision and that was not the right decision.
Whatever the case, the main thing is that Gomes can make a full recovery from what looked like a horrible injury. Both Tottenham and Everton fans agree on that.
