Gary Lineker says one Arsenal player did something ‘absolutely world-class’ vs Aston Villa

Arsenal should be really happy with their win against Aston Villa.

The Gunners lost the Premier League title in the 2023/24 season because they suffered two defeats against Unai Emery’s side. That would’ve hurt Mikel Arteta throughout the summer.

Arsenal weren’t great at Villa Park on Saturday, but goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey helped them pick up a very important win in the end.

The real hero of the match, however, was someone else. Gary Lineker sang his praises on the .

Gary Lineker delivers verdict on David Raya’s save for Arsenal vs Aston Villa

David Raya was Arsenal’s hero against Aston Villa.

The Spaniard has been sensational for several months now after what was a difficult start to his life at the Emirates Stadium.

Raya came under fire for no fault of his own – he was just caught in the middle of the Aaron Ramsdale drama when Mikel Arteta dropped the Englishman.

However, slowly but surely, Raya has won over the Arsenal fans, and the former Brentford star is the undisputed number one now.

Against Aston Villa, the 28-year-old pulled off a truly unbelievable save from point-blank range to deny Ollie Watkins. It looked like a certain goal.

After Deeney credited Raya with winning the game for Arsenal, Lineker has heaped praise on him.

After talking about how people were questioning the Ramsdale decision last year, Lineker said about Raya: “You would have to say he looks one hell of a goalkeeper.

“He made a sensational save last week, which Joe Hart analysed brilliantly. He did the same (this weekend) – I know Ollie Watkins should have scored with the header after it bounced back off the bar, but how quick did he get up off the ground to make that save?!

“I mean, it was absolutely world-class!”

David Raya has ended one key debate at Arsenal

Ramsdale is still a fan favourite at Arsenal.

The Englishman was integral in the 2022/23 season when the Gunners challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title for the first time.

An argument can be made to this day that Ramsdale didn’t do much wrong to be dropped, but the debate about who is the better goalkeeper is finished now.

Since the turn of 2024, Raya has proven that he deserves to be the number one at Arsenal.

That means Ramsdale is very likely to leave the club before the summer transfer window shuts at 11:00 pm on Friday night.
