Gary Lineker hails £70k-a-week Tottenham player in win over Brighton
Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson earned praise from Spurs cult hero Gary Lineker for his winning goal on Saturday.
Lineker took to in the aftermath of Tottenham‘s Premier League triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion to laud Johnson‘s “huge winning goal”. With a pun thrown in for good measure, of course.
“Brennan butter for Johnson as he scores a huge winning goal for @SpursOfficial,” the BBC Sport pundit wrote on the social media platform.
Spurs fell behind in the 17th minute of the match after Micky van de Ven brought Danny Welbeck down in the box and conceded a penalty.
Pascal Gross stepped up and sent Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way to put the visitors ahead.
However, Pape Matar Sarr equalised in the 61st minute with a composed finish after he tried squaring the ball for Richarlison.
Lewis Dunk slid in to cut the cross out, but the ball came off the post and back to Sarr, who duly slotted in from a tight angle.
Brighton were on top in the latter stages of the match, but left themselves exposed at the back and Tottenham made the most of it on the counter.
James Maddison and Richarlison worked the ball to Son Heung-min, who crossed for the incoming Johnson to fire into the net for all three points.

Brennan Johnson developing nicely at Tottenham as patience needed
The £70,000-a-week forward () is developing nicely at Tottenham and delivered a crucial winner for Spurs today.
Although he was thrown in at the deep end earlier this season due to injuries elsewhere, he’s doing well now he’s getting the chance to come on as an impact sub.
As Johnson continues to develop, his potential will be unlocked further and further, and it’ll be exciting to see how good he’ll be in a few years’ time as he gets closer to his ceiling.
