Leeds United’s Premier League return is just a few months away, and Leeds need to start preparing for life back in the top flight.

The Whites are gearing up to return to the Premier League, but they will surely be wary that their current squad isn’t up to scratch.

Indeed, with all due respect, a number of Leeds’ current players have struggled at this level in the past, and changes may be needed.

Leeds need a new goalkeeper, that’s for sure.

Illan Meslier has made too many mistakes this season, and Leeds are looking at Daniel Peretz as a potential replacement.

Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with Leeds too, and speaking to TalkSPORT Ireland, Gary Kelly has shared his verdict on these rumours.

Gary Kelly reacts to Caoimhin Kelleher to Leeds rumours

Kelly was asked about the idea of Kelleher and Finn Azaz signing for Leeds this summer.

The Leeds legend was very keen on the idea of Kelleher coming to Elland Road, claiming that the £30m-rated Liverpool man would be a great signing for the Whites.

“Yeah there is, more so with Caoimhin. There’s a lot of talk about him coming to Elland Road. We have two good goalkeepers at Leeds right now.

“The step up, Caoimhin needs first-team football if he wants to hold on to the Irish number one as well. At Elland Road, that would be a great signing. I’m sure Daniel will have his own ideas and transfer targets, I’m sure he knows and has pencilled out the players to bring to Elland Road, if Caoimhin is one of them, he’d be great.”

Caoimhin Kelleher coming to Leeds is a transfer that makes a lot of sense.

Indeed, not only do Leeds need a goalkeeper, but this is a move that makes sense on a personal level too.

Leeds have a rich history of homing some of the greatest Irish players in history, and they have a great connection to the Emerald Isle.

John Giles is a true Leeds legend from the Don Revie era, Gary Kelly was a stalwart for Leeds from the Champions League all the way down to the Championship, while Ian Harte provided some very memorable moments.

John Sheridan played a key role in Leeds’ last league title win, and while Robbie Keane wasn’t at Leeds for long, he certainly showcased his ability during his time in Yorkshire.

Stuart Dallas is Northern Irish, and he was a star of the Marcelo Bielsa era too.

Leeds’ best spells often coincide with having an Irish star in the spine of the team, and Kelleher could be set to continue that great tradition.
