Gary Cahill signing could disrupt budding partnership between Diop and Balbuena

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini should think twice about making a January move for Gary Cahill.

The Chelsea defender has admitted he may need to leave the club in search of regular first-team football.

Cahill has made just one substitute appearance since Maurizio Sarri arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer, and appears to be way down in the pecking order.

The England international has won everything there is to be won with the Blues since joining the club from Bolton Wanderers in 2012.

, West Ham are interested in signing him in the winter transfer window, but Pellegrini has to consider what he currently has going on in front of him.

Cahill could scupper Diop-Babuena partnership

He’d likely come in on big wages and of course he would expect to start – he is still a defender of decent quality.

Pellegrini would need to be careful. At the moment he has a blossoming partnership between summer signings Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena on his hands.

The pair are improving week on week and it would perhaps be unwise to meddle with it.

Since the phasing out of Angelo Ogbonna, the duo have been allowed to work together uninterrupted to understand each other’s games.

The Hammers looked pretty solid defensively in recent games against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Cahill might be a good signing for West Ham, but only if Pellegrini were to use him as cover for Diop and Balbuena – but that’s arguably not something he would be after.
