Garth Crooks says Leeds star has something superb to look forward to next season

Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has been named in Garth Crooks’ latest Premier League Team of the Week.

on Monday night, the Spaniard put in an impressive performance against Liverpool at Elland Road, capping it off by netting his first senior goal for his new club.

Aside from heading home the crucial 87th-minute equaliser for the Whites, he also delivered an overall impressive performance en route to a 1-1 draw.

“Aggressive defending, some lovely passing and a goal to cap the performance,” wrote the Yorkshire Evening Post, who gave him 9 out of 10.

Admittedly, one of Llorente’s headers back to Illan Meslier was poor and put Diogo Jota through on goal, and he seemed to go through the motions for a bit.

However, the man improved as the second half went on, and Crooks acknowledged how his overall performance come full time was impressive.

The BBC Sport pundit also bemoaned the fact that no fans are were at Elland Road as they would’ve produced an “electric” atmosphere.

A day earlier, Liverpool had announced their intention to play in the European Super League, though by Tuesday evening, all six Premier League clubs had dropped out.

And Crooks finished by saying Llorente was in for a treat next season when fans should be able to return to games.

“Diego Llorente lived dangerously throughout the match with Liverpool and might have been punished on occasion,” Crooks wrote on the BBC Sport .

“However, the Leeds defender salvaged a point with his first goal for the club and managed to keep Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota reasonably quiet for most of the evening.

“This was the sort of game that in the circumstances would have produced an electric atmosphere if both sets of fans had been allowed inside Elland Road.

“Quite what Leeds fans would have been singing is anyone’s guess, but Llorente still has all this to experience and it is something we can all look forward to next season.”
