Garth Crooks labels David Luiz commendable after Arsenal win

Garth Crooks that David Luiz should be commended following his goal in Arsenal’s superb win over Leicester City on Sunday.

The Gunners produced an excellent performance to beat the Foxes 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. The result was all the more impressive given that Mikel Arteta’s side went behind after just six minutes.

The equaliser came when Willian dinked a free-kick towards the edge of Leicester’s six-yard box. Luiz made a brilliant run from outside of the back post to nod the cross into the bottom corner.

Crooks praised the execution of the set-piece. But the pundit also lauded the centre-back following an incident that happened earlier in the campaign.

“Luiz looked totally uninterested during the set-up with his hands on his hips watching events,” . “His movement across the face of the six-yard box was excellent and matched only by his header – Arsenal’s equaliser.

“It’s quite commendable that Luiz is still prepared to put his head into dangerous areas considering his clash of heads with Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, which put both players out of action for some time.”

TBR View: Goal could be more significant for Willian than David Luiz

Luiz does appear to have recovered well from that horrifying incident in late November. And of course, everyone is hoping to see Raul Jimenez back out on the pitch as soon as he is ready.

The free-kick meanwhile, could arguably prove much more significant for Willian than his teammate.

It was only the attacking midfielder’s second Premier League assist since providing two on the opening day. But it was a moment of real quality from the pair.

Had Luiz – who earns around £120,000-a-week,  – nodded the header wide or straight at Kasper Schmeichel, Willian’s ball in may have been forgotten about fairly quickly.

However, with the goal being scored, that set-piece can potentially be looked back upon as a real turning point for the summer signing.
