Galatasaray mark Felipe Anderson as top transfer target as West Ham United chase summer sale
According to , Galatasaray are lining up a potential summer transfer for Felipe Anderson amid doubt in the winger’s future at West Ham United.
The Super Lig giants have eyes on Anderson as the Brazilian has been marked as the top target to strengthen Fatih Terim’s squad, with Sofiane Feghouli allowed to leave, Gedson Fernandes returning to Benfica and Younes Belhanda’s contract terminated in March.
Terim has given priority to Galatasaray signing new options in midfield and has already contacted Anderson’s representatives to discuss a move to the Turk Telekom Stadium, having received word that West Ham envisage his future being away from east London.
Anderson has one year remaining on the £85,000-per-week () contract signed upon his then club-record £36million () arrival in 2018, but failed to establish himself during a season-long loan spell with Porto starting only appearances in all competitions.
Galatasaray feel the 28-year-old’s decline now represents an opportunity to sign him as the Brazil international should excel in the Super Lig, with his ability to play on either wing or through the centre particularly appealing to Terim.
West Ham are thought to have two options to resolve Anderson’s future during the summer transfer window, with one being to extend his contract by a further year before sending the forward to Galatasaray on loan with an obligation to purchase him at the end of the season.
Another is to allow him to join Cimbom this summer without a transfer fee in order to free his salary from the Irons’ wage bill, although recent reports by in Brazil suggested the Premier League side value Anderson at around €15million (£13m).
TBR’s view:
Anderson’s future is almost certainly away from the London Stadium so long as West Ham can find a suitor willing to meet their demands, or they potentially accept Galatasaray’s offer to delay payment until next year in order to move on his salary this summer.
It would be fair to assume that the Irons would hold out until the last moment before taking up Cimbom’s loan-to-buy approach, however, as they had sought to sell the forward last year () before accepting Porto’s approach after the English market closed ().
As for West Ham electing to forgo any transfer fee to move on Anderson’s salary, that would seem questionable as the Hammers would be set to pay £4.4m () in wages if he saw out his contract in east London, which is far less than the Brazilian’s rumoured market value.
