, Gaetano Berardi has lauded Pablo Hernandez and named the Spaniard as the best player he has played alongside in his career.
Both Berardi and Hernandez will leave Elland Road this summer. It was announced ahead of the final day of the season that this year would be their last with the Whites.
The pair bowed out in the 3-1 win over West Brom. It was an incredible moment as the pair were substituted to an amazing reception with 20 minutes remaining.
The two players have given so much to Leeds down the years. And they will both be remembered as club legends given everything that they have done for the side.
The pair took part in an interview following the season’s conclusion. And Berardi went on to pay a superb tribute to the 36-year-old.
“Thank you to everyone, and I would like to thank Pablo for the person you are, for everything that you have done for us, for me, because he is, for me, the best player I could play with in my career. So I will be sad to leave you, to leave the boys,” .
May be tough for Leeds fans to see Berardi and Hernandez play for another club
Leeds fans will say that both players deserve the best moves possible after taking the decision to bring the curtain down on their spells at Elland Road.
No single player arguably did more to take Leeds back to the Premier League than Hernandez.
Berardi meanwhile, set the standard with his work-rate and his passion.
He arrived at a time when Leeds looked more likely to leave the Championship by finishing in the bottom three.
And Hernandez hardly found the club in a much better position when he joined a couple of years later.
Ultimately however, both men did all they could to ensure that they departed with Leeds back in the Premier League.
Berardi may have been the one saying thank you in the interview. But it is the supporters who will never be able to say thank you often enough for what the pair achieved.
