Of course, that left his future even further up in the air. But Berardi appears to have suggested that he expects to return to Leeds in the near future as he continues his recovery from injury.

“I go walking a lot but it’s going well, even if it will be a long recovery. At the end of September I should go back to England to define everything and still stay in Leeds,” .

It would have been a surprise had Leeds not offered Berardi fresh terms. He has been a fantastic servant during his time with the Whites.

And he deserves additional credit for signing a new contract for the rest of the season when there was obviously the risk that he could pick up a serious injury.

Of course, that may not have necessarily meant that Berardi would stay. He did struggle for game-time last season. And he comes across as the kind of character who would not want to sign a new deal if he feels that he is not going to be able to contribute to the cause.

But his comments would certainly suggest that another chapter will be written before the 31-year-old is done at Leeds.
