Gabriel Magalhaes and Bukayo Saka send message to Arsenal’s Declan Rice after England beat Netherlands

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice endured one of his more difficult showings for England against the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.

Rice was at fault for Xavi Simons’ opener – unfortunate to lose his footing whilst under pressure.

But the way in which the Arsenal midfielder recovered from the moment was quite remarkable – one that would have sunk lesser men.

Alongside Bukayo Saka, who was again excelling in a right wing-back role for Gareth Southgate, Rice took control of the midfield and was constantly finding his Arsenal teammate in good positions.

Rice never stopped battling, and helped to provide Kobbie Mainoo a platform to excel alongside him.

Of course, the Arsenal midfielder won’t have it any easier against Spain on Sunday, facing the likes of Dani Olmo and Rodri in central areas.

But having bounced back from his early mishap against the Netherlands, Rice deservedly took to to celebrate England’s win last night.

Arsenal’s Declan Rice celebrates reaching back to back Euros finals with England

Rice uploaded a picture with his midfield partner, Mainoo, and shared a caption of: “Back to back finals, 1 to go with the boy Kobbie.”

As you’d imagine, the post received a lot of love and support, particularly from Rice’s Arsenal teammates.

And having just bowed out of Copa America with Brazil, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel was among the first to share his support.

Gabriel simply wrote: “Yessss my G” with some emojis too.

Saka also replied, simply leaving a love-heart eyes emoji, a duo that have taken England all the way to the final in Germany.

Rice is now irreplaceable for Southgate

Both Rice and Saka have arguably become Southgate’s most important performers at Euro 2024.

The England manager doesn’t have another midfielder like Rice who can play as a single pivot at times – a truly irreplaceable member of his squad.

And whilst Southgate does have excellent alternatives to Saka in his team – Trent Alexander-Arnold as a wing-back or Cole Palmer on the right wing, he would struggle to replace the Arsenal man’s quality.

Saka was impossible for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake to deal with last night, a constant thorn in his side.

And Arsenal fans in particular will now be hoping that Saka can have a field day against Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella.
