Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus says Gabriel Martinelli is ‘so fast and so good’
Arsenal‘s first goal last night involved all three Gabriels.
Gabriel Magalhaes cleared the ball into the path of Gabriel Jesus in stoppage time before the end of the first half, and the 26-year-old produced a moment of magic.
He completely deceived two defenders with a glorious turn and fed Gabriel Martinelli through on goal. The 22-year-old didn’t make any mistakes and finished comfortably to give Arsenal the lead.
Most of the credit for that goal should go to Jesus, but being the humble man that he is, he heaped praise on his young compatriot instead.
When asked about the goal on , Jesus said: “I all the time go to the defenders – Gabi, Saliba, Ben, Zinchenko, in today’s case Tomiyasu, even the keeper – and I say: ‘Listen, when you put the ball away, always look at me. If you cannot look because it’s quick, put (it) in the middle, I’ll be there.’
“I think I controlled good, then I saw both (defenders) jump on me, and I turned, and obviously I just need to give Gabi because he’s so fast and so good and he finished the action so well and opened the result for us.”
Arsenal star Martinelli’s terrific record on debuts
Gabriel Martinelli missed Arsenal’s games against PSV Eindhoven and RC Lens due to an injury.
So, the game at Seville last night was his debut in the Champions League, and he marked it with a well-taken goal in the first half.
What sets Martinelli apart from many others is his record on his full debuts. The £6 million () man has now scored a goal in his first-ever starts in four different competitions – Champions League, Premier League, Europa League and the Carabao Cup.
It’s a shame that he didn’t score in his first FA Cup start, but that is still a tremendous record to have at the top level.
