Gabriel Agbonlahor says £65m striker would be ‘outstanding’ for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy on the transfer front the coming weeks as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his ranks further.

Spurs are up and running in the summer window, with Archie Gray joining the Lilywhites and Yang Min-hyeok also going on their books.

Both players are young, with the latter staying on loan at FC Gangwon until January, so Tottenham are likely to look at more experienced additions too.

Spurs have been tipped to move for a new striker, with Rob Guest suggesting the north Londoners need to bring in a proven goalscorer.

Now, Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his thumbs-up to a forward who has been linked with Tottenham in recent days.

Gabriel Agbonlahor hails ‘outstanding’ Tottenham target Dominic Solanke

The player in question is Dominic Solanke, whose fruitful 2023/24 season for Bournemouth has led to speculation regarding his future.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Tottenham are exploring a move for the 26-year-old.

Agbonlahor, speaking on (3/8/24, 4:13pm), said he’d take Solanke if he were a Tottenham fan.

Although he’d prefer Ivan Toney, he’d still be happy with the “outstanding” Cherries man, who he thinks was unlucky to miss out on Euro 2024.

“I would take Solanke or Ivan Toney if I am a Spurs fan,” said Agbonlahor. “I would rather Toney, but I think Solanke is a very good player.

“Nineteen Premier League goals last season, I thought he was outstanding, was unlucky to miss out on the Euros as well.”

Solanke stock at all-time high

Solanke is reported to have a £65million release clause that is only available to the Premier League’s ‘big six’.

This is quite a hefty fee, so it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will fancy their chances of negotiating a lower price with Bournemouth.

Considering Solanke’s contract runs until 2027, the Cherries’ hand would be strong in negotiations.

At the same time, the England international’s stock is at an all-time high and this summer would probably be the best time for the south coast club to cash in.
