Gabriel Agbonlahor says £175,000-a-week Tottenham player is just not good enough

Tottenham Hotspur still have a few players in their squad who are good enough to start every game.

Ange Postecoglou has done a remarkable job since he took charge of the club. The likes of Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris were moved on his debut season, while this summer saw Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon all released.

Joe Rodon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Troy Parrott have left the club too and Emerson Royal is on the verge of being sold to AC Milan in the coming days.

Tottenham deserve a lot of praise for the way they have managed outgoings, but Gabriel Agbonlahor believes they still have another player who is not at the level required.

Gabriel Agbonlahor says Richarlison is not good enough for Tottenham

Richarlison has been in the news a lot lately.

The Brazilian had a much better second season at Tottenham, but injuries still troubled him. That put his future up in the air in this summer’s transfer window.

Many reports claimed that Tottenham were determined to sell Richarlison to a club in Saudi Arabia, and a move even looked likely.

However, Richarlison rejected a big offer to leave Tottenham, and he has decided to stay at the club beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Agbonlahor has now had his say on the former Everton man, and he has claimed that Richarlison is simply not good enough to play for Tottenham.

The pundit said on talkSPORT (August 9 2024, 11: 22 am): “I look at the club that he is playing for, and I don’t think he is good enough for where that club wants to go with that manager. I don’t think he is good enough.

“I think you are looking at Spurs, they are in for a striker because Richarlison hasn’t done the job. 66 games he has played – 15 goals. They are after Ivan Toney and after Solanke for a reason – because Richarlison isn’t good enough.

“Forget about goals and assists, when I watch him, is he strong enough to hold the ball up? Not for me. Is he quick in behind? No, he is not. Is he a clinical finisher? No, he is not.

“I don’t think he is at that level that Spurs need.”

Richarlison may still have a key role to play at Tottenham

Tottenham are on the verge of signing Dominic Solanke, and many feel that is bad news for Richarlison.

The £175,000-a-week () Brazil international definitely won’t be the first-choice at Spurs anymore. He is unlikely to start too many games in the Premier League next season.

However, Richarlison could still find some joy because Tottenham are in the Europa League. Postecoglou is likely to make changes to his side in midweek games, and the former Watford man will get opportunities there.

Spurs will face teams that are far below the level of the Premier League. Richarlison is more than good enough to deliver against those sides.
