Gabby Agbonlahor suggests Manchester United player for Leeds

that he thinks Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard would be a good addition for Marcelo Bielsa’s struggling Leeds – after discussing the need to bring in midfield cover.

Leeds suffered a third straight defeat to Brighton on Saturday afternoon, having suffered defeats to League Two side Crawley and Tottenham before that. In all three games, Leeds have failed to find the back of the net.

Phillips, 24, has been missing for four Premier League matches this season – and three of those have been poor defeats to Leicester City and Crystal Palace, both of which resulted in 4-1 defeats, and then Saturday’s loss.

Agbonlahor thinks Leeds need another body in midfield and suggested England international Lingard, who has failed to make a single Premier League appearance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season.

“You can’t rely on one player [Phillips],” . “You have to have someone that can fill in, so you’d have to look in the transfer window. Watching the midfield today, you got outrun.

“Struijk wasn’t very good for me. I’ll throw a name out there that you might agree with, or not. Jesse Lingard, I feel like he could be a good addition to the Leeds squad – get him on loan for six months.”

TBR’s view – Strange comments, but is Lingard what Leeds need?

First of all, Agbonlahor’s claim that Leeds need Lingard as cover for Phillips is plain wrong. Phillips is a holding midfielder, everybody knows that – Lingard is an attacking midfielder, or even a winger. Completely different.

However, regardless of that, would Lingard be a good signing for Leeds? His addition would not go down well with supporters given his Manchester United past, but in terms of the player and the position Leeds need, it might suit.

Leeds need cover ahead of Phillips in attacking midfield and Lingard is that position. However, he is earning a whopping £100,000 a week  – – something that the Whites would surely go against paying.
