Gabby Agbonlahor calls Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins the ‘perfect signing’
Gabby Agbonlahor has given a big thumbs up over new Aston Villa signing Ollie Watkins and is convinced he’s going to be a real success at the Midlands club.
Villa completed a club-record deal earlier this week to sign Watkins from Championship side Brentford for £28million, which could rise to £33million with add-ons ().
The 24-year-old forward has been reunited with Villa boss Dean Smith after working with him at Brentford and he’s now going to get his first ever chance to play in the Premier League
He couldn’t quite get Brentford over the line for promotion last season, but did scored an impressive 26 goals in 50 games across all competitions.
Agbonlahor believes the Englishman is a “hungry” striker that can be a good fit at Villa.
“Anybody that’s scored that many goals in the Championship has got to come at a price. He’s at a good age and there’s a great sell-on value for the club as well,”
“Watkins is the perfect signing. He’s got pace, he’s a goalscorer and he’s hungry. He’s played under Dean Smith before [at Brentford] so Dean Smith will get the best out of him.”

TBR’s View:
Villa needed to bring in a new frontman going into the new league season and have gone for someone unproven at Premier League level, but Watkins looks like a brilliant talent and many expect him to make the step up comfortably.
He’s a clever centre-forward that has great movement and composure around the box, plus he should help bring a clinical touch in the final third for the Villa side.
The presence of manager Smith was surely a big factor in Watkins joining Villa and is definitely going to help him fit the ground running, as he knows all about his strengths and weaknesses already.
