‘Furious’: Journalist shares what he saw Aston Villa chiefs do before sacking Gerrard

Aston Villa have parted company with Steven Gerrard in wake of their heavy Premier League defeat on Thursday night.

The Villans lost 3-0 away at Fulham, a fourth consecutive game without a win for the claret and blue side.

Villa were left hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone following their dire display in West London.

The Villans were outplayed for much of the encounter, with Harrison Reed opening the scoring for Fulham on 36 minutes.

Villa fans booed Gerrard and the team off at half-time, and things got much worse after the interval.

On 62 minutes, Douglas Luiz was sent off for an off-the-ball headbutt on Aleksandar Mitrovic following a VAR review.

Six minutes later, Matty Cash’s handball in the box led to a penalty which the Cottagers goal machine converted.

And seven minutes from time, Tyrone Mings diverted Neeskens Kebano’s low cross into his own net

Soon after, chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” grew ever louder from the away end.

Villa fans were half-right – the club didn’t even wait until the morning to make the decision.

‘Walked out’

Prior to the sacking, Birmingham Live reporter Ashley Preece shared what he saw Nassef Sawiris and Christian Purslow do mid-game.

He took to Twitter to report that Sawiris was “furious” with what he witnessed during the game, and walked out of the directors’ box after Luiz’s red card.

Purslow then followed suit after Mitrovic’s penalty.
