Fulham’s links with Slimani make no sense as Mitrovic fills the target man role

, Fulham are interested in signing Islam Slimani.

Slimani is currently at Turkish club Fenerbahce, on loan from Leicester City, and he could be available for transfer in January.

Leicester are ready to sell him and Claudio Ranieri is eyeing a reunion, .

But this deal makes little sense, considering Slimani failed to impress under Ranieri and because he is too similar to Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Before moving to Leicester, the Algeria international scored 51 goals in 96 matches for Sporting Lisbon.

But he struggled to adjust to life in England, netting 13 goals in 46 games for the Foxes and no goals in four games for Newcastle United on loan.

This season, Slimani has scored three times in 16 matches for Fenerbahce, which is hardly going to convince Fulham fans that he is the goal scoring striker who can fire them to safety.

Moreover, the 30-year-old is considered a target man, standing at 6ft 2in and renowned for his strength.

In his 16 games for Fenerbahce, he has won 48 aerial duels, .

Mitrovic is also well-known for his physicality. , the Serbia international has won a staggering 83 aerial duels in 16 Premier League games.

And with seven goals, the 24-year-old is a striker in the same mould as Slimani but with a better record of winning aerial duels and scoring goals.
