Fulham will rejoice at Luciano Vietto’s reported exit

This week, reported that a Portuguese outlet has claimed Fulham’s Luciano Vietto has agreed a deal next season to join Sporting Lisbon, a relief for the Whites.

The Atletico Madrid loanee has been an incredibly underwhelming signing at Craven Cottage, showing brief glimpses of his talents but largely turning in anonymous performances in the Premier League.

Vietto enjoyed success in La Liga and sparked optimism when he joined on deadline day in August, bolstered by an excellent performance against Burnley in Fulham’s first league win of the season.

But the good times were few and far between for Vietto. Time after time, the Argentinian was exposed for a lack of pace, power, and physicality, often out-muscled and shoved to the peripheries of matches.

Save for a headed goal in a sparkling cameo against Brighton in January, Vietto failed to score another goal this entire season. For a player who makes his name on goals and attacking contributions, it simply wasn’t good enough.

The transition to English football was a difficult one for the Atletico loanee, one not helped by Fulham’s instability and the fact that his appearances mainly came on the wing, whereas Vietto primarily played centrally in Spain.

But in the end, Fulham will rejoice that Vietto will not be with the club next season, as SW6 was a poor fit for the attacker.
