Fulham target Gary Cahill would be a masterstroke addition

Fulham are reportedly close to securing a deal for Chelsea defender on loan for the rest of the season.

, the Whites could add the 33-year-old to the squad at Craven Cottage and pip Arsenal to his signature.

It is understood that manager Claudio Ranieri has targeted the serial winning centre-back to add experience to his side in their fight against relegation.

Fulham are inside the relegation zone as it stands and a point from safety, but would surely have a much better chance of avoiding the drop if they sign their January target.

The 61-time capped England international is a real leader at the back and could help tighten up the Fulham backline.

Ranieri has started to help his defence improve since his appointment as manager and his title winning Leicester team were built on their success in defence.

Leicester captain Wes Morgan was the organiser and leader of the back four, which is definitely a role that Cahill could now fill for Fulham as the general on the pitch.

Cahill has reached elite levels during his illustrious career and would be the ideal addition for Ranieri in January.
