‘From the start’… Alasdair Gold says Johan Lange has pushed for Spurs to sign £9m player from day one
Johan Lange arrived at Tottenham back in November as the club’s new Sporting Director.
After a spell at Aston Villa, Lange is back in the Premier League with Tottenham, and it’s fair to say that his first January window in charge may go down as a rousing success.
Indeed, the deals to sign the likes of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin look to be masterstrokes already, while Lucas Bergvall has arrived late in the day to bolster Spurs’ young core.
Speaking on the , Alasdair Gold has been discussing Bergvall’s arrival at Spurs, and he says that Lange has actually been pushing for Bergvall to be signed since the day he arrived at Tottenham.

Lange pushed for Bergvall since day one
Gold shared what he knows about the man.
“Johan Lange came into the club in November and he pretty much pushed this deal from the start. He’s a young player with a Scandinavian base that will be his strongest area, but he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of world football, but as a Dane from the Scandinavian area, he knows the young stars coming from that part of the world,” Gold said.
Backed him
The signing of Bergvall is a real show of faith in Lange’s ability as a Sporting Director.
Quite often, the individuals in this role can be superseded by the chairman or the manager’s wishes, but, by the sounds of it, Spurs have plenty of faith in Lange’s ability to spot a future star.
Of course, whether or not Bergvall lives up to his billing at Tottenham in years to come remains to be seen, but the fact that Spurs beat Barcelona to his signature would suggest that he is a top talent.
