Report: Tottenham want ‘outstanding’ player likened to Bale but he’s been offered £4m-a-year to reject Conte
Tottenham will need to fight off a new contract offer from Eintracht Frankfurt, if they want to complete the signing of Filip Kostic this summer.
According to reports, Spurs are keen on signing the impressive Kostic, who helped the German club to Europa League success this season. The Serbian is seen as being ideal for Antonio Conte’s wing-back system and is among a number of players Tottenham are watching for that role.
However, according to , Spurs will need to beat off Kostic’s current club if they want to sign him, as well as Juventus. reports how there is a contract offer of £4m-a-year on the table from Frankfurt, who would be more than happy to keep one of their star players. It’s suggested Juventus have offered considerably less thus far.
Kostic, 29, scored seven goals and laid on a further last season for Frankfurt. He is seen as one of the best wide players in Germany, but as he’s approaching 30, it could be now or never when it comes to making a move to a so-called ‘bigger club’.
as an ‘outstanding talent’, Kostic has been compared in some respects to Gareth Bale. Certainly, a sound endorsement for any player.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Can Tempt Kostic If Conte Wants Him
Champions League football, the chance to work with Conte, and an opportunity to play in a system which puts great emphasis on its wing-backs, there is a lot for Kostic to like about Tottenham.
The biggest question really is whether Spurs want him. They’ve already signed Ivan Perisic, who at 33, is older than most other players they go for at the moment. And with Ryan Sessegnon already on board, there has to be questions over whether Kostic fits.
Of course, in terms of improving the squad, Kostic does that. But long-term, Conte might have doubts.
