Frank Lampard says Son Heung-min did something very ‘strange’ in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou’s side dominated the affair for large portions but failed to take their chances, which has been a common theme over the last 12 months.

They lacked a cutting-edge up top with Dominic Solanke out injured and Frank Lampard noted that Son Heung-min did something very peculiar when operating as the number nine.

Frank Lampard says Son Heung-min’s movement was off vs Newcastle

Tottenham just didn’t click at the top end of the pitch yesterday and Frank Lampard thinks Son Heung-min’s movement was poor at times.

Reacting to Son’s chance from Brennan Johnson’s cross, Lampard said (on ): “This is a strange movement from Son now.

“I think when he is the one striker, the number nine in the box, it might be because he’s not an out-an-out striker, he goes for the cut-back.

“He should be getting in the six-yard box, so it’s an afternoon of those things not quite going right for them.”

Tottenham need to sign a back-up striker to Dominic Solanke

Yesterday showed that when Solanke is out of the side, whether that be through injury or suspension, Spurs look pretty toothless.

So, perhaps they should invest in a backup striker during the January transfer window, like a Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

Or, 19-year-old academy forward Will Lankshear should be given the chance to shine after an impressive pre-season.
