Frank Lampard says he is ‘very impressed’ with Everton player who is yet to start a game this season

Frank Lampard has been asked about James Garner who made his Everton debut against Manchester United last time out.

Lampard has conducted his ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

Garner came on as a substitute during the 2-1 defeat against his former club but is still waiting for his maiden Toffees start.

Lampard said Garner is ready to contribute and said he was impressed with the England Under-21 international’s cameo performance.

Lampard on Garner

Lampard replied when asked about Garner’s debut: “Very impressed. I thought to go up against your old team, the team you came through with, adds a bit of pressure.

“I thought it was good pressure for him. He came on and showed personality on the ball. Passed it well, got a shot which was nearly going into the top corner.

“So I have no doubts with James. He is a player for the now but also for the future, of course. There’s competition for places in midfield but he gives us something different. He’s more than ready to play for us.”

Garner has struggled with injury problems since pre-season at United, where he did not get many chances to impress Erik ten Hag.

He will hope those issues are behind him now and that his first Everton start is just around the corner now that he is fit.

Lampard has given Everton’s midfield a facelift this summer and Garner is primed to add technical quality to that if he can force his way in.
