Frank Lampard says £22m midfielder wanted by Tottenham is ‘outstanding’
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the transfer market this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his ranks.
The Spurs boss has laid some solid foundations in his maiden season at N17 and he’ll be eager to build on them.
Midfield is an area Tottenham could look to strengthen, and several top players in that position have been linked with a move to Spurs.
One of those is Adam Wharton, a player who has well and truly taken the Premier League by storm in the space of just a few months.
TBR Football revealed in May that Tottenham are continuing to monitor the 20-year-old’s progress even though he only moved to Crystal Palace in January.

Wharton has done so well since his move to Selhurst Park that Gareth Southgate has included him in the England squad for Euro 2024.
Now, Frank Lampard has been telling how much Wharton and fellow England midfield prodigy Kobbie Mainoo have impressed him.
“Yeah, hugely impressed and maybe not surprised in terms of their England performances,” he said (7/6/2024, 11:09am). “I think both on their debuts made outstanding performances.
“Having played for England and remembering my early days, you know the feeling of nerves sometimes, I am meant to be here and settling into a team, and going on playing at Wembley or playing high-level games, it’s a real step-up.
“So to perform like they both have done and show that level, I mean, that’s why Gareth would have picked them.”
Tottenham will find it difficult to sign Adam Wharton this summer
Although you can understand why Tottenham would still be keeping tabs on Wharton, the truth is getting a deal over the line this summer would be incredibly difficult.
Palace struck gold when they signed him this year, and there’s no doubt that, if they do sell him, they’d be making a huge profit on their £22million outlay.
However, the Eagles will have their own ambitions – with top talents such as Wharton, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in their ranks, they could well push for Europe next term.
In addition, giving Wharton another full season or two at Palace, during which time he could well become world-class if he maintains his trajectory, would lead to an even bigger price tag further down the line.
Considering Wharton has a contract until 2029 at Palace, it’s not as though they are under any pressure to sell this summer. Indeed, it would be foolishness to do so.
