France World Cup hopeful has held talks with Man Utd as £9m player stalls on new contract
TBR Football understand Jean-Philippe Mateta has held talks with Manchester United as Crystal Palace attempt to agree a new contract with the forward.
The Crystal Palace No.14 has emerged from relative obscurity to become one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League – scoring 19 goals last season and 17 in all competitions so far this term.
However, while the 27-year-old rises to become a talismanic figure at Selhurst Park, there is currently a disagreement over a new contract.
SIMPLY SUBLIME FROM MATETA! 🤯

Now, sources have shared an update on the Jean-Philippe Mateta situation with TBR Football, as Manchester United emerge as a potential destination.
Manchester United have spoken to Jean-Philippe Mateta
Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been told that the man born in Sevran believes he is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and should be paid more to reflect that status.
We understand Mateta – who Thomas Frank admires – does want a new contract at Crystal Palace at this moment in time rather than a move away, but no progress has been made at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace have already activated a pre-agreed option in the Frenchman’s contract which keeps him tied to the club until June 2027, although ideally, a longer deal will be signed.
In the meantime, a number of clubs are monitoring the situation, given how prolific he has been across the last 12 months.

TBR Football understand Nottingham Forest, Everton and West Ham are admirers of Mateta – who some compare to Demba Ba – while clubs in Italy, Turkey and the Saudi Pro League see him as a potential signing.
The 2024 Olympic Games silver medalist – who cost Crystal Palace £9m in a move from Mainz back in January 2022 – is hoping to break into the France setup under Didier Deschamps soon, ahead of the World Cup in the United States next summer.
How Jean-Philippe Mateta compares to Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee
Ruben Amorim could certainly do with a new striker at Old Trafford.
27 – Since Oliver Glasner's first Premier League game in charge of Crystal Palace, only Alexander Isak (32), Erling Haaland (31) and Mohamed Salah (30) have more Premier League goals than Jean-Philippe Mateta (27). Barclaysman.

This season, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored just three Premier League goals each, which is very concerning for two forwards who cost a combined sum of £108m.
Contrastingly, Mateta has struck 14 Premier League goals alone, so you can certainly understand why Manchester United have spoken to the Crystal Palace marksman.
