Rangers’ title hopes took a blow yesterday as they were defeated by fellow title chasers Kilmarnock. Goals from Eamonn Brophy and Ibrox-bound Jordan Jones proved enough for Killie to claim a 2-1 win despite Jermain Defoe scoring his first goal for Rangers.
It was a poor result for Rangers and one which left Steven Gerrard furious with one player in particular. Joe Worrall’s inexplicable concession of possession allowed Kilmarnock to equalise and it was all downhill from there.
Worrall has had his good moments for Rangers since joining on loan from Nottingham Forest. However, he is also capable of a clanger. In fact, overall, Rangers have not made the necessary improvements at centre-back.

Conor Goldson is a decent player and looks to be the pick of the bunch. However, Rangers signed two other centre-backs in the summer in the ageing Gareth McCauley and Croatian defender Nikola Katic.
Worrall is error-prone, McAuley past his best and for some reason Gerrard has lost faith in Katic.
Four new signings and still Rangers do not have a solid centre-back partnership. Combined, the quartet cost Rangers £5 million (; ; Worrall loan; McAuley free). With little time left in the current transfer window, this is a problem Gerrard will need to rectify in the summer.
