Former West Ham man Gary O’Neil lays into Manuel Pellegrini after Burnley loss
Former West Ham United midfielder Gary O’Neil has taken aim at Manuel Pellegrini’s tactics in the 3-0 weekend loss against Burnley and thinks the Hammers boss has a problem.
As per , O’Neil was keen to ask questions of the Premier League winning manager because he couldn’t figure out his tactics at Turf Moor.
He : “When you go to Burnley… you know it’s going to be a tough afternoon. It asks questions of you, physically and mentally, whether you are strong enough and up for the fight, which West Ham need to be now. They were seriously lacking. We need to start asking questions of Pellegrini – he is not getting enough of the squad.
“A performance like that suggests there is a problem. It looked like they didn’t know what they were doing. They weren’t trying to dominate the ball, they weren’t physical, they weren’t trying to play forward. I just don’t get the game plan. I don’t get what they were thinking when they approached that Burnley game.”
TBR’s View – Pellegrini’s attacking football has disappeared from view
Pellegrini was brought in to replace David Moyes at least in part because he is capable of implementing a more attractive style of play and he was granted a higher calibre of player to that end.
But it has simply disappeared from view as the soft underbelly which has dogged West Ham for years now on full view again.
