Former Tottenham winger shares his theory over why Mikel Arteta and Arsenal celebrate so much
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has a theory over why Mikel Arteta and Arsenal ‘over-celebrate’.
Arsenal have once again faced criticism over their post-match celebrations recently.
It was something which was aimed at Mikel Arteta’s men frequently last season and the talk re-emerged following their win over Liverpool nine days ago.
Martin Odegaard came under fire from Jamie Carragher after taking a picture with the club’s photographer on the pitch after the 3-1 win over Liverpool.
The Liverpool legend told Odegaard to ‘’ and while the likes of David Seaman backed the Arsenal skipper, critics have still piled in on Arteta’s men.
Arteta was also spotted celebrating on the pitch after the game and his reaction to their third goal against Liverpool was a talking point.

Gary Neville has warned Arsenal about wasting energy by becoming too emotionally involved.
But former Spurs man and current Luton Town winger Andros Townsend feels the celebrations are a ‘conscious tactic’ from Arteta.
Townsend has theory over Arsenal’s celebrations
Speaking on , Townsend shared why he believes Arsenal’s celebrations are a deliberate attempt to ‘lay down a marker’.
“I think it is a conscious tactic from Mikel Arteta to over-celebrate the victories,” Townsend said. “If I go back to the Community Shield when they beat City, I feel like they wanted to over-celebrate to lay down that marker and let City know they were there.
“Same against Liverpool, let’s let them know we are there and they are fighting. I don’t think Arteta really wanted to celebrate a Community Shield that badly but I think just mentally he is trying to make Arsenal stronger, tougher, tougher to beat and break down to make them believe they can win this league so I think it’s a conscious effort from Arteta.”

Arteta certainly doesn’t shy away from showing his feelings in the dugout and you’d imagine that Arsenal will continue to enjoy their victories.
In truth, the Gunners have every right to celebrate as they see fit and the talk surrounding their post-match celebrations has been a bit over the top.
