Ibrox legend Kenny Miller feels Lee Wallace was ‘victimised’ in his last season with at Rangers.
The pair were hit with fines and suspensions following an alleged dressing room bust-up with Graeme Murty.
Both lodged successful appeals against the punishments five months later, and Miller left the club at the end of his contract in 2018.
Wallace remained at Ibrox for 2018/19, and saw just 53 minutes of action under Steven Gerrard, who preferred the likes of Jon Flanagan, Borna Barisic and Andy Halliday.
In the eyes of Miller, the now-QPR player should have seen much more game time.
He said (): “Of course he was [victimised].
“I don’t know how things went, but I don’t think many would have felt Lee wasn’t good enough to play for that team.
“Lee is 31. I’ve absolutely no doubt he should have been playing last year. He should have been playing because not only was he the best left-back, I believe he was one of their best players. The team could have been better with him.”
TBR’s view
It was a surprise to see Wallace feature as little as he did in his final season with the Gers.
The defender gave so much for the club as they climbed the divisions to get back into the Premiership and to see him snubbed by Gerrard was quite strange, especially with Flanagan and Halliday operating out of position and Barisic struggling to convince.
Gerrard actually called Wallace ‘a fantastic player’ in June 2018 (), making his reluctance to work him back into the team an even greater mystery.
Perhaps Miller is right and that there was some victimisation going on as a result of the bad blood before Gerrard arrived.
