Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty is set to leave the club this summer. The Northern Irishman returned to Ibrox last summer after impressing at Hearts. Steven Gerrard was happy to bring in a former Rangers hero who clearly has a track record of thriving in Scottish football. Rangers paid around £500,000 to bring him back to Glasgow.
However, he has struggled in his second Glasgow stint.
Now, a former Rangers player and Northern Ireland international has spoken about Lafferty. David Healy has that he thinks the player himself would admit that he has not taken his chances under Gerrard at Ibrox.
“If you speak to Kyle he will probably say he he hasn’t done enough when given the opportunity.
“Others will say he wasn’t given enough chances by Gerrard, but I think Kyle has had enough chances at Rangers.
“I hope it works out for him at a new club where he can settle down and get back to his best.”
However, he struggled to find form back at Ibrox. Toward the end of last season, he was struggling for regular football.
It seems an exhibition match against Liverpool’s youngsters was the final straw for Lafferty. Lafferty was one of several senior players Gerrard felt was an ‘embarrassment’ in the game – along with Eros Grezda and Borna Barisic.
Lafferty did not play after that reported incident.
teams in Qatar and Saudi Arabia are said to be interested in the Northern Ireland international. Rangers will no doubt be hoping to get a deal done soon to move Lafferty out of Glasgow this summer.
