Former Man City star who won two Premier League titles admits he would have actually loved to play for Celtic

When it comes to players who have played for both Manchester City and Celtic in recent years, it’s actually two goalkeepers who immediately spring to mind.

Kasper Schemichel has now followed Joe Hart in swapping Man City for Celtic Park, even if both✤ keepers featured for several clubs in between.

Otherwise, names like Georgios Samaras and Scott Sinclair can be recalled, two players who scored plenty of goals for Celtic at least.

Of course, there was nearly a new na๊me to add to that list when City reportedly showed interest in Kyogo Furuhashi last year, who has now moved on to Rennes in Ligue 1.

But overall, it’s safe to say that th♏e pathway between City and C♛eltic hasn’t been trodden too often.

Micah Richards would play for Celtic if he could turn back time

However, when speaking on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, Micah Richards admitted that he would ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚlove to have played for Celtic if he could turn back time.

The trio were asked by a fan who they would have each liked💟 to have played for outside of Europe’s top five leagues.

Incidentally, UEFA currently ranks the Scottish Pꦉremiership as Europe’s 14th best league, 🦹one spot behind the Austrian Bundesliga and one ahead of the Danish Superliga.

And whilst Linker and Shearer chose le🌳agues further afoot, Richards revealed that he would have adore🐓d the chance to play in a Celtic shirt.

Lineker began: “I’d go Benfica, because Lisbon is 🐷a great place to live and Benfica is a huge football club, ꧋great history – produced a lot of good players.”

Shearer🐻 added: “Got to go somewhere in Americ🧸a, LA or something haven’t we?”

Lineker: “Oh well played, good shout. How about down in Argentina somewhere? Buenos Aires, somewhere on a river, River🍌 Plate or Boca Juniors.”

Richards then said: “No I’m going to Celtic, I’d love to plꩲay for Celtic.”

Shearer: “Cue the Rangers pile on!”

Lineker: “Quickly say Celtic or Rangers!”

Micah Richards was once an unused substitute against Celtic

Incidentally, Richards did face Celtic once as a City pla🧜yer, a pre-season friendly in 2009 that was played at the City of Mܫanchester Stadium.

City wo🍒n the tie 2-1 owing to goals from Gareth Barry and Craig Bellamy, with Chris Killen scoring for the away side.

Richards was actually an unused sub for the hosts, who f🍃ielded a back line which included Kolo Toure – another player who has represented both clubs.

And from that point of view, Bellamy, Killen and Willo Flo💜od (who also played) appeared for both si🌺des as well.

A scarcely trodden path, 💝but one that was well 🀅represented in this friendly at least.
