Former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson still expects his old side to get promoted

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has expressed his admiration for the job Marcelo Bielsa has done at Elland Road this season,

Defeat against Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United left Leeds outside the automatic promotion spots by one point, but Robinson was keen to point out that many fans would have taken being in the top six had it been offered before the season started.

He : “This is the best chance Leeds have had to get up in ages. Bielsa has been absolutely brilliant, very astute appointment. [His] attention to detail is second to nobody.”

“Most Leeds fans would have taken the play-offs at the beginning of the season. Where they are now is a great achievement. I think they can go up. For the first time in years, this is the best chance that they’ve had to do that.”

Robinson is largely saying what many Leeds fans feel now – it’s no secret that this as close as they’ve been to promotion for a long time and Bielsa is already a hero at Elland Road.

But his point about keeping some perspective and acknowledging that the play-offs would have been seen as a good achievement pre-season is worth bearing in mind, especially if that’s where Leeds end up.
