Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman backs his old club to bring David Moyes back
Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman has admitted that re-appointing the club’s former manager David Moyes would be a step back.
But the feels that might be what the club needs, because the steps they have made since the Scot left the club in 2013 haven’t worked out all that well.
He : “The only obvious candidate at the moment is David Moyes. Maybe a step back is what is required. Are you going to get a manager in a job? That can take time and be very expensive. They tried the panic mode – as Evertonians called it – by bringing in Sam Allardyce to keep Everton up.
“It wasn’t a success on all counts, it kept Everton in the Premier League but a lot of fans weren’t happy. Some fans are suggesting to go and get Mauricio Pochettino because he is out of a job but Everton have fallen so far down the league that even with all the money available it is no longer a glitzy opportunity.”
TBR’s View – Everton won’t go down, so they don’t need to panic with a safety-first appointment
Everton are in the bottom three and considering they panicked when they appointed Sam Allardyce, that seems likely to convince the club to make a safety-first appointment once more.
But the Toffees are still unlikely to go down; there are many clubs in the lower reaches of the Premier League with worse squads than them.
So the club can afford to look beyond the end of their noses in terms of a short-term appointment. And the supporters deserve more than the man who left the club years ago and has bombed everywhere he’s been since then.
A step back would demoralise the fanbase, who would have little to look forward to aside from a relegation scrap under a former manager, shattering any thoughts of progress in the intervening period.
There have to be more inspiring managerial choices than David Moyes. Silva’s job had been precarious for an extended period and Everton should have been using that period to scout some out.
