Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs says Jordan Pickford needs to focus on football
Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs has given his thoughts on Jordan Pickford’s form this season as well as his decision to take a swipe at his critics.
On , Stubbs said Pickford needs to focus on his football for the Toffees and not attract attention for what he’s saying in the press.
He : “He’s not a bad goalkeeper. He has obviously made a couple of mistakes this season but I can count them on one hand. I can talk about the quality saves he’s made. He’s a confident boy; but sometimes when you make a mistake you can become ridiculed.
“You want people to be talking about him for his performances, not for what he is saying in the media. He’s just got to keep concentrating on his football. I don’t think he really needs to come out and make comments that will put more of the spotlight on him.”

TBR’s View – Nothing wrong with Pickford speaking out but he’s got to back it up
Pickford showing some frustration in the press has absolutely no bearing on his form and Stubbs is wrong to say he needs to stay quiet.
What he does need to do is make sure he’s doing the work on the training ground to ensure it doesn’t happen too often again.
There’s nothing wrong with being honest in the press and Pickford saying how he feels. We don’t want players to be robots.
But too many more mistakes like Saturday’s and his international place will – rightly – be under threat.
