Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke praises Gabriel Martinelli’s weekend display

Former Arsenal man Adrian Clarke was full of praise for teenager Gabriel Martinelli’s performance in the 3-0 home defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.

On Arsenal’s , Clarke paid tribute to Martinelli for providing a rare spark on an afternoon where Kevin de Bruyne stole the show.

He : “Just shading it for main man this week was Gabriel Martinelli. Once again the youngster’s vibrancy caught the eye. Less than 30 seconds into the match, Martinelli turned a hopeful punt forward into a goalscoring opportunity. He has earned his place in the team on merit and deserves to stay there.

“He shows good pace, a lovely awareness of where to manoeuvre the ball and he hits the target too. He’s also useful on the counter so it’s a shame Arsenal didn’t create more situations like this. His directness is refreshing and the Brazilian’s hunger has stood out this season. I do like his aggressive mindset, bumping Sterling off the ball here.”

TBR’s View – Martinelli has arguably proved to be the signing of Arsenal’s summer so far

Martinelli was probably the summer signing that got Arsenal fans least excited during a window of big-name arrivals.

But he has adjusted to English football the best, avoided the injuries which have plagued Dani Ceballos and Kieran Tierney and produced more than Nicolas Pepe.
