Form of Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule gives Bayern Munich boost as they prepare to keep Mo Salah quiet

Liverpool host Bayern Munich at Anfield tonight in a highly anticipated Champions League knockout clash.

But Bayern Munich will travel to England without Jerome Boateng, who has been ruled out of this match with an injury.

Nonetheless, the form of Niklas Sule and Mats Hummels should calm their nerves as the Germans prepare for the ominous task of facing Mo Salah.

Liverpool have a dynamic attack with the likes of Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri scoring goals freely.

But Sule and Hummels have formed a strong partnership in central defence for both Bayern Munich and Germany and will hope to continue to impress.

In 18 games, Hummels has made 30 tackles, 46 clearances, 30 interceptions and won a staggering 96 aerial duels ().

Sule has been impressive too. In 24 games, the 23-year-old has managed 23 tackles, 40 interceptions and a hefty total of 70 clearances, as well as winning 87 aerial battles ().

With Boateng out injured, Bayern Munich need both Hummels and Sule to continue their fine form to keep Liverpool quiet.

And with defensive statistics likes these, Liverpool know they will need to provide something special to break down their opponents.
