Forget Carter-Vickers, Newcastle need to be after Liverpool’s £10m-rated hero this summer – TBR View
Newcastle are reportedly looking to sign a centre-back this summer and talks are underway for Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers. But for a touted £10million, surely Steve Bruce needs to consider Liverpool ace Nat Phillips instead?
Carter-Vickers, 23, has impressed during the second half of 2020-2 on loan at Bournemouth – under Jonathan Woodgate. He will now return to Tottenham, but he only has a year left on his contract. Spurs are ready to sell.
that Newcastle have been joined by Bournemouth and Anderlecht’s Vincent Kompany in the race to sign Carter-Vickers. All three clubs are in talks to sign the United States international, for a fee of £10million. But he is unproven in the Premier League.
He has struggled at times during his numerous loans in the Championship – at Ipswich, Stoke, Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Luton. He is good, but Newcastle can do better. Meanwhile, new reports this month claim Liverpool would be open to selling Nat Phillips – for the same price.

Phillips is a bargain at £10m, Newcastle must be keeping an eye
Phillips, 24, has been an unlikely hero for Liverpool this season. With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip injured – Phillips has broken into the side and impressed, especially during the second half of the season. In his last 10 Premier League games, Phillips clocked up six clean sheets.
Somewhat surprisingly then, claim Phillips will be sold by Liverpool if a fee of £10million is received. Newcastle have got to be on red alert and consider bringing him to Tyneside instead of signing Carter-Vickers, with Phillips a much better option at that price.
