Illan Meslier was sent off as Leeds lost at Preston North End today and he has been slammed for getting himself red-carded.
Meslier was shown a red after face-palming the Preston striker following a claim from a high cross into the box.
The French stopper had swung an elbow at Alan Browne as well just a second before and his hand to face of striker Milutin Osmajic was right in front of the referee, leaving the official with little choice.

And watching on for the BBC, pundit Jon Newsome has slammed Meslier for being ‘foolish’ in his actions.
“It was silly, it was foolish [by Meslier] and he will be sitting there in the dressing room thinking ‘what have I done?’. But it’s too late. Sometimes a bit of adversity galvanises the lads, and let’s hope that it does,” Newsome .
Meslier had to see red at Preston
There is an argument here to say the Preston man did over-react a bit. But at the end of the day, players now know that a hand to the face is a red card and that’s what happened here.
Meslier was right in front of the referee and there was simply no need for him to do what he did.
Sure, the Preston player went down like a sack of potatoes. But he was also caught directly in the face and was entitled to go down.
Meslier has basically cost his team today. It meant Joel Piroe had to go off and make way and in the end, Preston got their winner right at the end.
Daniel Farke will be fuming, at both the decision from Meslier and the referee no doubt.
