TBR View: Fonseca being number one target shows lack of planning from Tottenham

Fonseca being the number one target is a worrying sign for Tottenham in their search for a new manager.

His spell with the Serie A outfit didn’t prove fruitful since his appointment back in 2019.

The club have struggled massively in the Italian top-flight, failing to finish inside the top four in any of his two seasons.

They finished in seventh-placed last season, which saw them fail to qualify for the Europa League or Champions League.

However, in someone like Lopetegui, the club would’ve been targeting a far more successful manager.

The Spaniard has worked wonders with the Andalusian outfit, finishing in the top four in each of the last two campaigns.

It proves worrying that a report has emerged claiming the club never attempted to appoint the 54-year-old.

His recent record in league and continental football makes him a standout candidate.

The latest update regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Fonseca proves incredibly worrying. His appointment shows a lack of planning from the Lilywhites, who were should’ve chosen Lopetegui.
