Flamengo hope to sign David Luiz on free transfer after Arsenal exit
According to , Flamengo will try to sign David Luiz on a free summer transfer once he leaves Arsenal.
The Gunners last month that the defender will leave the Emirates Stadium when his contract expires. He spent two years in north London after joining from Chelsea in an £8million () deal in 2019.
Luiz made in the Premier League last season after struggling with injuries. A on his right knee followed by a held the 34-year-old to just 53 minutes over Arsenal’s final nine games.

Luiz is yet to agree a transfer with any side ahead of becoming a free agent when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the month. A reunion with Mesut Ozil at Fenerbahce was on the cards, with the German lauding life in Turkey ().
But Flamengo also keep Luiz on their radar and intend to put forward a concrete proposal to the defender soon. The Brazilian Serie A side are yet to formalise their interest in the international by contacting his representatives.
Luiz’s agent is happy with interest from the current Brazilian champions, though. Flamengo begun their title defence last Sunday with a 1-0 win over Palmeiras to sit sixth in the table.
The 2020 FA Cup winner with Arsenal has not played in Brazil since leaving Vitoria and joining Benfica in 2006. He enjoyed Champions and Premier League success at Chelsea and two Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain.
TBR’s view: Luiz should go home after Arsenal exit
While he could reunite with Ozil at Fenerbahce, Luiz should look to go home to Brazil after his Arsenal exit. The centre-half will have few more opportunities to return and play in his home country if he rejects Flamengo’s interest.
Luiz could always accept a one-year deal to remain in Europe but at 34, should prioritise a homecoming now. Much will depend on if the defender feels he still has something to offer a Europa or Champions League side.
It would be questionable to stay in Europe at a side that cannot offer UEFA football. He has enjoyed success throughout his career but struggled to offer Mikel Arteta a regular option last season. So, Luiz should look to enjoy the end of his career in Brazil after leaving Arsenal.
