Five Premier League clubs that could sign Gareth Bale as a free agent

Gareth Bale will leave Real Madrid after nine years with Los Blancos when his contract expires at the end of next month.

The 32-year-old has won four Champions Leagues during his time in the Spanish capital and he could clinch a fifth if Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Liverpool in this year’s final.

But unlike in 2018 when Bale scored two goals against Klopp’s men in the Champions League final, the Welshman isn’t likely to play a part in this season’s showpiece, due to being out of favour and battling a back injury.

His agent Jonathan Barnett has revealed that a return to the United Kingdom in the summer is likely.

Barnett told Portuguese newspaper Record, via : “He leaves Real Madrid, but it all depends on whether Wales qualify, then we will make a decision.

“Is it more likely to return to England? I think so, but we’ll have to wait and see if Wales qualify for the World Cup.”

It seems that it all hinges on whether Wales qualify for this winter’s World Cup in Qatar. The Dragons will meet either Scotland or Ukraine on June 5 for a place in the tournament known as the Festival of Football.

Bale, who could be one of seven Real Madrid players that could move to the Premier League this summer, is expected to join a new club if Robert Page’s Wales side qualify for the finals which kicks off in November.

But if they miss out, the prospect of Bale continuing his playing career is far less certain.

Championship side Cardiff City, where Bale was born, have emerged as shock contenders, according to , but a move to the second tier looks unlikely.

Instead, TBR takes a look at the Premier League clubs that could sign Gareth Bale this summer.

In February,  reported that the Welsh legend had already signed a  to re-join Tottenham for a third time.

With Antonio Conte’s side looking nailed on for Champions League football next season going into the final day of the Premier League season, a return to north London could appeal to Bale.

Bale scored 16 goals from 34 games during his loan spell with Spurs last season, but a lot will depend on whether Conte sees a role for the Welshman.

With Dujan Kulusevski expected to be signed on a permanent deal, its clear that Conte is looking forwards and not backwards, but yet another emotional return to Tottenham cannot be ruled out for Bale.

Newcastle United

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent said on  that Newcastle United fans would love Bale at St James’ Park.

PIF have aspirations of challenging for the biggest trophies around and Eddie Howe’s side are expected to go big in the market once again.

After bringing in the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes during their first transfer window at the club, PIF could see the signing of Bale as a statement of intent.

But with the Toon Army likely having to make Bale the club’s highest earner in order to tempt him to Tyneside, it could upset the dynamics in a close-knit dressing room.

While a move to Cardiff has been mooted, could Bale go full circle and return to the club that handed him his professional debut.

The left footer rose to prominence at Southampton before being signed by Tottenham.

A sentimental return to the Saints could be on the cards, but Bale would likely have to take a significant wage cut.

Fulham

The Cottagers have never shied away from splashing the cash when they have been promoted to the top-flight and the lure of bringing Bale to west London may prove too hard to resist.

Signing Bale on a free transfer to potentially link up with Aleksandar Mitrovic could be a mouth-watering prospect for Marco Silva.

But after getting carried away in previous summer transfer windows ahead of returning to the top-flight, Fulham may pass on Bale and steer clear of big names.

Aston Villa

With Phillipe Coutinho signed on a permanent deal and Luis Suarez linked with a move to the Villains, could Steven Gerrard try and bring Bale to Villa Park as well.

Signing three of La Liga’s most expensive signings would be quite the statement from the former Rangers manager and Villa certainly have the financial might to put together an attractive package for Bale.
