Five interceptions: Yves Bissouma justifies Liverpool interest with Anfield masterclass

Yves Bissouma helped Brighton to a 1-0 win over Liverpool and in the process, passed his Anfield audition with flying colours.

The Malian has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions in the summer, with other clubs also keen to sign him.

Jurgen Klopp has been monitoring the player’s progress and on his performance last night, he’ll be determined to sign him.

The 24-year-old signed for the Seagulls from Lille in 2018 for and is loving life at the AMEX Stadium.

He has played 22 games this season and has been instrumental in Graham Potter’s team.

Last night some statistics from highlighted just how good he is as a midfield lynchpin.

Bissouma bossed the midfield and outshone Thiago Alcantara and Gini Wijnaldum in the process.

He claimed five interceptions during the 90 minutes, with the Liverpool duo claiming just one between the two of them.

Bissouma also blocked two shots during the 90 minutes and largely looked in decent nick for the Seagulls.

There is no suggestion over what sort of figure it would take to tempt Brighton into a sale for their star man.

Quality

Whatever the price is, Liverpool should be interested in his services.

Liverpool have Gini Wijnaldum out of contract in the summer and could be looking for a player to fill the void.

Bissouma won’t come cheap but he’d be a shrewd option who would arrive with Premier League experience to his name.

The youngster is on at the AMEX Stadium and in that sense, he’d be affordable for Liverpool.

Michael Edwards doesn’t get much wrong in charge of transfers at Anfield and he’ll be aware of Bissouma.

After upstaging his midfield on Wednesday night, Klopp should be badgering the sporting director, demanding Bissouma is part of his ranks next season.
