Fernando Pacheco reports look ominous for Leeds man Kiko Casilla
Leeds United fans were handed a surprise on Monday when Marcelo Bielsa confirmed – – that Kiko Casilla had been dropped from the squad.
Casilla has been a regular fixture on the bench this season. And he has stepped in for a couple of games when Illan Meslier has been ill.
So it was incredibly intriguing that it was Elia Caprile who took a place on the bench at West Ham.
Some of the fans speculated that it could be an indicator that Casilla is on the way out of Elland Road in the summer.
, he is one of the club’s highest-earners on around £32,000-a-week. So it is unlikely that Leeds will be content to still pay that if he has become third choice.
And Casilla’s absence looks all the more ominous amid recent reports from Spain concerning a potential target for Bielsa’s men this summer.
, Leeds are battling Southampton to sign £8.6 million-rated Fernando Pacheco.
Pacheco has been an ever-present for Alaves in La Liga this season. So if Leeds are indeed interested, he is almost certainly going to arrive to battle Meslier for the number one spot.
That may not be the end of the world for Caprile. But Leeds are surely unlikely to sign a 28-year-old, top flight goalkeeper and also keep Casilla on the books.
Something – at long last, some may say – will have to give.
