Ferguson thinks Celtic player is about to leave, has four goal involvements in 21-22

Barry Ferguson has told – – as saying that he believes Ryan Christie is about to leave having spoken to Celtic fans. Christie has enjoyed an excellent few days at Celtic, producing four goal involvements in two games. But Ferguson reckons he is about to go.

Christie, 26, is in the final year of his contract. Reports over the weekend suggested that Brendan Rodgers wants him at Leicester – while Southampton and Burnley are also considering the 20-time Scotland ace. Chris Sutton took to Twitter on Sunday, urging Celtic to sort a new deal.

But his future is in doubt – despite a goal against Jablonec last Thursday and then three assists in Celtic’s 6-0 win over Dundee. Speaking about Christie and his future at Celtic, Rangers legend and Alloa gaffer Ferguson thinks the midfielder is about to. He says Celtic fans he has spoken to, reckon he is off.

“If I was his agent I’d be trying to get him down south,” Ferguson said. “It looks to me, and to the Celtic fans I’ve spoken to, that he’ll be on the move. That will be a big loss to Celtic. He was on a different level against Dundee. That ball for (Kyogo) Furuhashi’s hat-trick goal was eye of the needle stuff.”

Keeping Christie a signal of intent from Celtic, amid Ferguson claim

Christie is a brilliant player. He is a player of Premier League quality. He has shown in Europe he can hack it, and 85 goal involvements in 147 Celtic games is proof that he is a brilliant, attacking midfielder. Celtic losing Christie would be a hammer blow. They have got to keep him.

The Hoops are still trailing Rangers despite a poor start to the season from Steven Gerrard’s side. If Celtic are going to have any chance of stopping Rangers, keeping Christie is pivotal. Odsonne Edouard can leave, he is not as important as he was to Celtic. But Christie is crucial.
