Ferdinand shares what he’s heard about van de Beek in Everton training

Rio Ferdinand that he has been told by people at Everton that Donny van de Beek has lifted the levels in training following his arrival on loan from Manchester United.

Van de Beek joined the Toffees in the final stages of the January transfer window. Of course, he arrived having really struggled to secure any sort of regular game-time at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, there were always high hopes that he would step up at Goodison Park. And the early signs suggest that he will indeed have a major impact on Frank Lampard’s side while on Merseyside.

The Dutchman made his full debut for the Toffees at the weekend on a day when they desperately needed a big performance. Thankfully, they were better than many could have expected.

Everton blew Leeds away, and van de Beek was arguably the star of the show. The 24-year-old took full advantage of Leeds barely selecting a midfield for the game.

He ran the show. And he was a key part of an Everton side that destroyed Marcelo Bielsa’s side in all departments.

It was the perfect display to set the tone for van de Beek and his time at Everton. And Ferdinand suggested that it was not only on the Saturday afternoon where the former Ajax man made a major impact.

“I’ve been speaking to a few people at the club and they’ve said that he’s gone in there and lifted the levels, training-wise,” .

“Great lad, first and foremost, but you can see. A lot of them are going: ‘wow, he’s this good, they must be unbelievable at Manchester United if he can’t get in’.”

Everton win and van de Beek performance shows Lampard’s men have quality needed to stay up

Everton’s relegation fears have not been completely alleviated. Leeds were woeful in the loss.

However, the Toffees would have given most sides in the Premier League a good game with that desire and that atmosphere.

Like Newcastle, that performance makes it hard to see Everton being in the relegation mix when the season ends.

They have a number of outstanding players, including van de Beek. And it appears that their decisions in January could well get them across the line.
