‘Fascinating’: BBC pundit says £25m Tottenham ace bested his rival on the pitch today

Tottenham Hotspur left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon delivered an impressive display against Southampton today.

This time last year, the 22-year-old’s Spurs future looked uncertain.

But now, Sessegnon has become a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s starting XI at Tottenham.

And in Spurs’ Premier League opener against Saints, the man repaid his manager’s faith in him.

Sessegnon looked confident from the off and dragged Spurs level after James Ward-Prowse opened the scoring.

The Tottenham full-back found the back of the net once more, but he was denied by the offside flag.

Later, Kyle Walker-Peters denied him a second goal with a well-timed tackle.

As well as contributing so much in attack, Sessegnon also defended well throughout.

BBC Sport pundit Glenn Murray lauded the Tottenham ace, saying he was “winning” the “fascinating battle” against Walker-Peters.

“This game has turned into the Sessegnon and Walker-Peters show because they’re just at each other all the time,” he said on .

Sessegnon got in in the first half and got the goal on the back of Walker-Peters.

“He got in again but Walker-Peters made a great challenge.

“It is turning out to be a fascinating battle in that pocket of the field and at the minute, Sessegnon is winning it.”

After Ward-Prowse and Sessegnon’s goals, Eric Dier’s first goal in more than three years put Spurs in front on 31 minutes.

The England defender got a deft flick on Son Heung-min’s whipped delivery from the left to find the bottom corner.

Just after the hour mark, Spurs somehow went 3-1 up as Mohammad Salisu, under no pressure, netted an own goal.

And just a minute later, Dejan Kulusevski wrapped up the scoring with a lovely curling effort.
