‘Far, far better’: £16m player Jurgen Klopp sold has already improved so much after leaving Liverpool in July

Former Nottingham Forest player Brian Laws has said that new signing Neco Williams has already improved so much.

, after seeing off competition from Fulham.

Williams had been on loan in west London last season as they scrolled to the Championship title.

However, Marco Silva’s side decided against signing Williams, instead opting to bring in Kevin Mbabu.

Williams’ path to first-team football was always going to be blocked by Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had already agreed a deal for Williams’ replacement before he left the club.

Calvin Ramsay was signed from Aberdeen, but has been hampered by injuries since heading south of the border.

Liverpool might be looking at how Williams has improved at Forest this season and wondering if they made the right decision.

An injury to Alexander-Arnold has forced them to play Joe Gomez and James Milner out of position to cover for him.

And Gomez was criticised for a mistake he made playing on the right against Rangers in the Champions League.

Williams has already improved at Forest

“He is coming through a negative spell with some positive performances and that will help him mentally.

“I think there has been some good coaching involved.

“You can see, clearly, that he has benefited from curtailing his enthusiasm to get forward all the time.

“Forest, as a team, did not have any real understanding of when to defend and when to go and attack.

“It left a lot of gaps at the back. But since Cooper has changed the formation and the approach, Williams has looked far, far better.

“He has become far more solid as a defender.”

Nottingham Forest are likely to be fighting for Premier League survival all season.

Cooper has shifted Williams from the right side to the left to accommodate the introduction of Serge Aurier.

It’s a role Williams tends to play for Wales, and may fill once again at the World Cup next month.

Williams’ improvement at Forest will certainly be welcomed in Wales, and Liverpool might be wondering if they made the right choice letting him go.
