The outlet also reported that the 28-year-old has made clear he wants to move to Glasgow, and is set to be in the city on Tuesday to iron out the final details on a one-year loan deal.

“You understand the speculation with Shane because he’s an important player and an important character and he wants to play football,” Brighton boss Graham Potter is quoted by as saying.

“So of course, people are putting two and two together and it’s an obvious one. But he’s been fantastic for me.”

Meanwhile, Republic coach Stephen Kenny is quoted by the as saying: “I think it’s important for Shane. He is desperate to play. He is at the peak of his career.

“He has been a very strong personality for Ireland and for Brighton over the last few years.

“I’m sure a lot of managers would like to have Shane and, the type of player that he is, he needs to be playing. He knows that.

“Whoever gets him will get a really, really competitive centre half who is tremendous in both boxes. He would be a real addition to whoever signs him.”

It’s clear that Duffy is highly rated at Brighton, but with the Seagulls having numerous defenders in their ranks, it’s understandable for him to seek first-team football elsewhere.

An experienced, high-calibre centre-back and a boyhood Celtic fan, he seems like the perfect fit for the Hoops in their quest for 10 In A Row and it looks as though a move is very close.
