‘Fantastic’… Jamie Redknapp suggests £22m Tottenham player will be crucial for Ange Postecoglou now

Whilst watching Tottenham Hotspur draw against Manchester United this evening, Jamie Redknapp saw cause for excitement.

The former Spurs player liked so much of what he saw from Ange Postecoglou’s team, even if it wasn’t quite enough to win on this occasion.

Tottenham dominated the ball, excelling in the middle, and that’s where Redknapp was particularly impressed.

Speaking during coverage, Redknapp was blown away by Rodrigo Bentancur against United, saying the midfielder will now be crucial moving forwards.

The pundit was incredibly excited to see Tottenham at full strength in the middle, suggesting that Postecoglou will soon have a slight conundrum.

Redknapp said: “I do like Bentancur, I think he’s a fabulous player.

“He’s had really nasty injuries, it’s a beautiful finish past Onana. What they’ve got when everybody’s fit is a really good balance in there, when you’ve got Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison is hopefully not too far away and then Bentancur, that’s four quality midfield players and he is a fantastic player.”

Of course, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Spurs adding a midfielder this month, but they may well already be covered.

When you consider that Spurs also have Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to add to the names mentioned above, there is a strength in depth.

Perhaps that duo could still be players that Postecoglou eventually moves on, potentially even in this window.

And fans may think that will be the case if Spurs are to chase an alternative they’ve now found to Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham have started January with brilliant efficiency, something that already paid dividends today.

Although not speaking about Timo Werner on this occasion, Redknapp could have easily complimented the new Tottenham man for his showing at Man United.

The forward displayed all of the endeavour of his Chelsea days, but in a side better suited to his skill set.

And following the game, Micky van de Ven certainly wasn’t surprised by one of Werner’s key attributes.

There’s a ton of promise for Spurs moving forwards, and at the risk of being greedy, fans will still hope further progress can be made with their squad before the month is up.
